Lake Casitas Rowing Association Coaching Staff
Coach Eric started rowing in 1984, same year that the Olympics came to Lake Casitas. His competitive rowing career continued for the next 16 years, winning five state championships, two national titles, and culminating in a silver medal at the world championships in Germany. Gillett offers his athletes a dynamic and challenging environment. His coaching history includes novice and varsity men at Marin Rowing, varsity men at Newport Aquatic Center, UC Santa Barbara Novice Men, and assistant to the Princeton Varsity Openweight and Lightweight Men’s programs. He has worked with over 4000 athletes on junior, collegiate, and masters levels.
Eric and Wendy began dating in college at 18 and 19 years old, and next year will be celebrating 20 years of marriage.
Coach Wendy has been coaching and developing novice athletes since 1992, and is incredible at getting athletes ramped up rowing fast in a very short amount of time. Wendy was a coxswain in college and has (as most coxswains do) more energy than all of us combined. She brings her experience in leading crews and also her teaching of over a thousand students in summer rowing programs. Her dream has always been to teach kids, and working with the beginner rowers and coxswains gives her a chance to make a big impact in the lives of these developing student athletes.
Coach Dani is a 4-year scholarship athlete from the Division I rowing program Sacramento State. The former Team Captain has coached at the high school and collegiate level. She understands girls athletics and what it takes to help rowers and coxswains find their next level of performance. Originally from California, she spent the last 3 years coaching high school girls in Philadelphia. Summer time she holds Casitas Summer Camps plus coaches for both Sparks Rowing Camps as well as US Junior Development camps. Dani enjoys sailing out of Ventura Harbor and traveling the world, and her true passion and calling is teaching rowing and building confident and skilled athletes.
While her programs have a wide range of athletes and fitness, last year her girls were ranked 3rd in the state, and 14th at the USRowing National Championships in Florida.
Coach Cody is one of the founding members of Casitas Rowing since 2008 starting as a high school Freshman. As a strong part of the Casitas Rowing staff since 2013, he is excellent at laying the foundation for our athletes and getting them quickly ramped up as top contributors on the team. Cody is active in just about every water sport there is. His rowing classes are challenging, and athletes learn the proper technique and how to row and race like champions. Cody rows on our Casitas Masters team, and regularly attends the world championships in outrigger, plus competes in the local ToughMudder competitions.
Coach Scott started with Casitas as a masters rower, and has moved up through the ranks to top our Casitas Racing team. He is very familiar with the Casitas training program and how to get fast and see improvement quickly. Coach Scott is an Athletic Counselor at Ventura College and fitness trainer. He has made a career out of helping people be successful and keep sports in their life. Typically he can be found outdoors, either rowing with our Casitas Masters team, or cycling, playing hoops, in the gym lifting and even killing it at the local ToughMudder competitions. His days are spent on campus at VC, working tirelessly to help these young athletes in their sports and studies.
