Mens U16 and U17 Team

The High School U16 and U17 Team is for athletes that do not turn 17 years old during the spring of their school year. It is also open to competitive 8th graders that are looking for more of a challenge and racing opportunity and to prepare them for high school racing. We have both Fall training and racing, plus Spring training and racing. Some advanced 8th graders can move up to the High School U17 team and race in that squad for 3 years. This team travels to compete both in regional, state, and national level regattas with our State Championship Regatta held in Sacramento in May. Teams include both rowers and coxswains. National Championships has also started offering racing in this age group.

Mens Varsity Team

New athletes that are Juniors and Seniors get ramped up quickly, and move right up to the Varsity Squad so they are with other athletes their same age (No experience necessary). Teams include both rowers and coxswains. The Varsity athletes race in many different boats so there are racing opportunities for everyone. We match athletes up with others of similar fitness and skill.

Male Coxswains

Coxswains are the boat leaders, they have a rudder for steering and call out the practice routine and race strategy at regattas. A typical boat will have eight rowers and one coxswain. We look for motivated people who are outgoing and naturally talkative. Generally the coxswains are smaller and weigh less than the rowers, with coxswains for the boys teams typically would naturally be under 130 pounds throughout high school, but this isnt a requirement.

I would like to say that my kids learned a lot about being part of a team and were in incredible physical shape as well. The camaraderie between athletes so unique and special, and the parents end up achieving it was well. I highly recommend rowing, this experience really cannot be put into words, but is something kids really should try!!

Casitas Rowing FINANCIAL AID

We provide a robust and inclusive community supported financial aid program that makes it so almost everyone who wants to row, can. Financial aid is awarded based on need for the region we live in, and is decided on by a committee of thoughtful and dedicated club committee members. Our goal is to get the kids that are committed to the team out on the water rowing.

Dont know how to swim yet?
No prob, we are partnered with local community swim instructors who are willing to offer free lessons to get kids ramped up.

Dont have a ride to the lake?
We have an awesome parent carpool system from most areas. Also, get a buddy or two to join with you and carpool becomes a piece of cake :-).

Team Dues
There is a 1-week no commitment / free trial period when a high school or middle school athlete starts rowing, at the beginning of Fall and Spring seasons. After that one week trial period is closed, we ask new kids who are interested in trying rowing to take a private lesson or two to get a feel for the sport, and can ride on the coach boat to watch a few team practices, but, would need to sign up for the season prior to joining in with the rest of the team practices.

Then, if the athlete joins the team, junior dues for the school year are broken out into 2 seasons. Fall payment of $1,700 is to be paid in September, OR, if needed parents can request that it be broken out into 4 payments of $425. Then, Spring dues of $2,125 are paid in January for rowing January through Championships in May. This can be 5 payments of $425 for Spring if needed. (When athletes start, they are committing to that entire Fall or Spring season).

There is a “multi family member” discount for families with either siblings rowing, or, if both a parent is on the adult team and a child on the junior team. Junior athletes are after school, and adult rowing is in the mornings.

We want to make sure that any kid who wants to row, can, and that financial issues are not a factor in deterring athletes or their families. Please talk to us about options if you would like more information, our goal is to get these kids out there on the team.

Our experience with The Casitas Rowing program has been an outstanding one. We have had two boys go through the program. The opportunity exists for every athlete to excel. The training routines, motivating practices, individual feedback from coaches, and emphasis on nutrition all play a part in making our rowers very competitive. We (as parents) have made lifelong friends and have enjoyed watching our children grow and push themselves beyond what we thought possible. Casitas Rowing is a wonderful program!
